As True Today As Ever!

I remembered this saying the other day whilst talking to a friend, is this saying not as true today as it was the day Charles Dickens wrote it?
Live within ones means and all will be well, spend more than you can afford and take the misery that goes with it.

"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds nineteen and six, result happiness.
Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."

That must be why the banks are reluctant to lend money to businesses. Glad that's been cleared up.
